kite runner write up...~ thing..

We as a group decided to make our kite look in a way that it would reflect upon us on how we feel after reading the book. The Heart placed at the centre of the kite symbolises our strong compassion towards kites. The wings we placed on the heart signify the flight of our compassion. We tried to show that we would not let this feelings disappear, so we used a hand to show that it is within our reach. On top of the kite we placed a mini-halo this was to signify our pure feelings about flying the kite. My group and i found in the the making of the kite that we had different feelings and perspectives. Thus, we have come to the conclusion of the design for the kite. The project has inspired us and allowed us to take yet another step closer into english literature.

Inspirations of our kite

The inspiration of our kite come from our group itself not from any specific object in the world. With such unity and teamwork, my fellow group members were able to finish 2 kites. Our kite was mainly made out of nylon material and a few pieces of plastic sticks. My group members went to a kite outlet in Macpherson to buy our necessary equipment for the kite. Then, we head back to Sauarv's house to construct and decorate our kites.

We put our kite in the middle and sat in a circle. We brainstormed for ideas but couldn't think of any. Then, all of us decided to a decorate and design the kite based on a theme called ''fire''. The fire in the kite represent the flame that were kept in our heart and that spark of motivation to accomplish the task with joy and teamwork. Everyone in our group painted the kites with attractive colourless and we even craft our own name on the kite. Along the way, we had laughter, giddles but the kite we make was something that we cannot purchase from any other kite shop. The kite represent our effort, teamwork and friendship that brings us closer together as a group.

our second kite that we painted which
represent as a rainbow

this is our first kite. it took us about 2 hours
to complete it.

The Inspiration for our kite

Inspiration of our kite

Looking at the world from a different perspective, soaring high above the azure sky, mesmerised by the height it reaches yet feeling a tinge of envy. That must be what the Wright brothers felt when they were inspired by a bird flying in the sky just like how we were inspired by the product of there inspiration, planes.

Kites flew for many centuries dating back to earlier than 400 bc being the basis to creations of many great flying machines and even used as an object of study by the Father of Aviation, Sir George Cayley. Therefore, we created a primitive diamond structure kite with the paintings of many flying objects over the last few centuries depicting the story behind the creations of aviation from such a simple structure.

Our kite depicts the history of many aviators and carries the significance of the intention of different planes whether it is used for war, communication or transportation. Regardless of it use they fly under one sky and are a part of our history closely linked to kites.

Kite Making Project

The picture of my kite is an eagle and a rainbow.
I chose an eagle because it glides in the air very steadily without having to flap its wings unlike smaller birds. It also has good eye sight to find its prey.Eagles also can soar into the sky and it is very beautiful to see an eagle soar into the sky.
We chose an eagle because we want our kite to stay in the air as long as possible.
We chose a rainbow as it will only appear after a huge thunder storm to tell us that the storm is over. The rainbowe also appears high in the sky therefore the rainbow is so that we hope that our kite can fly as high as possible into the sky.

New Pandemic Assignment

                        New Virus Pandemic assignment

Who are the people involved in this scenario?
  •  The victims of the flood
  • the GET pilots
  • WHO(World Health Organization)
  • Researchers

Identify the key problems
·        A ribonucleic virus, dubbed the “Blue Nile”, have an array of flu-like symptoms such as, cough, fever, shortness of breath, headaches, body aches and diarrhea. Within two weeks many victims develop pneumonia and/or acute respiratory distress syndrome, which lead to difficulty in breathing and can result in organ failure.
·        Ironically, the not yet affected areas have a significant increase of medical facilities. Even though the virus has not even reached them yet. The affected area is lacking of medical facilities and is quite saddening.
·        There are not enough GET pilots available, and are currently not able to spread out their manpower to the two other problems: flood search and rescue and medivac transport
·        If the researchers carry out research and tests now, the virus may have already mutated after the 12-18month process, which only means they are developing the cure for now, but not for the future.

What are their roles?
·        The role of the victim is to survive and to provide tests for the researchers( if they caught the virus, they would be able to give a sample to the researchers), and to wait for further information on their rescue and aid for them.
·        The GET pilot’s job is to search and rescue, to evacuate and relocate victims and to be able to work with WHO to help the victims and to do their best
·        WHO is supposed to prioritize, to identify the problems and to react to the virus, checking on whether it has mutated or spread even more, then react to it and make the right decisions for the country. Such as to “find medication that may slow the virus”.
·        The researchers are the key people involved in this disaster. They have a tight schedule, trying to find a cure or just a medication to slow the virus, and all of these must happen fast, as for every minute or hour they delay, one by one the victims of the flood are dying.

Possible solutions for each problems
·        Switzerland’s patented anti-viral medication, Xifan, designed to treat severe cases of influenza is the temporary solution. It has proven partially effective as a prophylactic and as a treatment for those in early stages of the disease. Because Xifan is most effective when taken within 48 hours of the appearance of symptoms and Blue Nile is difficult to differentiate from the flu in its early stages, but doctors are hesitant to use the precious medication. WHO can contribute the money into the long process of developing a cure for the disease, but they caution it as the process of 12-18 months maybe too long.
·        More relief effort can be put to providing those affected areas with more medical facilities, and if all countries cooperate, this problem would soon be solved.
·        Other countries can contribute too with their GET pilots, and stop the suspense the flood search and rescue, but just to do both search and rescue and medivac transport after distributing manpower, which would help in the long run.

Pandemic english assigment

1. Who are the groups of people involved in the scenario?

  • World Health Organisation (WHO)
  • Red Cross
  • GET Pilots (Global Emergency Transport)
  • Researchers Of Switzerland
  • Victims Of Virus
2. What are their roles? (Elaborate)

  • WHO> The people research to find vaccinations on the pandemic wide spread.  WHO authorizes the vaccinations to the infected citizens of the country. WHO tried using 'Xifan' to slow down the virus but doctors are hesitant to use the previous medication.
  • Red Cross> The Red Cross Provide Search and rescue for the non-infected citizens. The Red Cross organization helps to evacuate them as well as to relocate them temporary shelters.
  • GET Pilots>Bring aid to Victims of Blue Nile. These people evacuate the non-infected citizens so that they may not contract the diseases of the infected.
  • Researchers Of Switzerland> The people research on the virus, as well as conduct experiments so that they may find a vaccination for the disease.
3. Identify 3 Key Problems
  • Pandemic: "Blue nile" virus (Infection rate increases).
  • Difficulty identifying who has contracted the virus
  • Difficult to find a cure for the virus
4. Think of 1 possible solution for each of the problems
  • WHO should call for a quarantine in the area of the virus so that the virus does spread anywhere else except the area. This helps to contain the infected in one spot so that the Red Cross can easily get aid to the infected and they would not be wandering finding for the infected.
  • WHO  should send a message across the nation, telling people to get aid if they aid if they have symptoms of the virus.
  • Recruit more scientist and researchers. Asked them to work longer,  extra pay. So that they can quickly find a cure.

1)Who are the people involved in this scenario?
  • GET-GLOBAL EMERGENCY TRANSPORT
  • THE FLOOD TRANSPORTERS
  • RESEARCHERS OF WORLD HEALTH ORGANISATION
  • VICTIMS OF THE VIRUS
  • RESEARCHERS OF SWITZERLAND
 2)What are their roles?
  • GLOBAL EMERGENCY TRANSPORT-ITS ROLE IS TO WORK DIRECTLY WITH THE WHO AND THE RED CROSS TO RESPOND IMMEDIATELY YO NATURAL DISASTERS,PROVIDING SEARCH AND RESCUE,EVACUATION,AND RELOCATION FOR VICTIMS.
  • RESEARCHERS OF SWITZERLAND-THEY HAVE FOUND A ANTI-VIRAL MEDICATION CALLED XIFAN,DESIGNED TO TREAT SEVERE CASES OF INFLUENZA.
  • VICTIMS OF THE VIRUS-THEY INITIALLY SUFFER FROM AN ARRAY OF FLU-LIKE SYMPTOMS:COUGH,HEADACHES,FEVER,SHORTNESS OF BREATH,BODY ACHES,AND DIARRHEA.WITHIN TWO WEEKS,MANY VICTIMS DEVELOP PNEUMONIA AND CAN RESULT IN ORGAN FAILURE.
  • FLOOD TRANSPORTERS-THEY HELP OUT AFTER THE FLOOD.THEY HAVE RESPONDED FOR CLEAN-UP AND RESCUE OF THE AFFECTED AREAS AND VICTIMS.
  • RESEARCHERS OF WHO-THEY WANT TO FIND MEDICATION THAT MAY SLOW THE VIRUS AND EVENTUALLY STOP THE VIRUS.
   3)IDENTIFY THE KEY PROBLEMS
I)THERE IS POOR SANIATION,CROWDED SHELTERS,AND MINIMAL HEALTH CARE WHICH HAS INCREASED THE SPREADING OF THE VIRUS.
II)OVER 300 FLOOD RESPONDERS,INCLUDING SEVERAL GET PILOTS SUFFERING FROM THE EFFECTS OF THE BLUE NILE VIRUS.
III)AS XIFAN IS MOST EFFECTIVE WHEN TAKEN WITHIN 48 HOURS OF THE APPEARANCE OF SYMPTOMS AND BLUE NILE IS DIFFICULTTO DIFFERENTIATE FROM THE FLU IN ITS EARLY STAGES,DOCTORS ARE HESITANT TO USE THE PRECIOUS MEDICATION.

4)SOLUTIONS FOR EACH OF THE PROBLEMS
I)MORE DOCTORS SHOULD BE SENT TO THESE AFFECTED AREAS,MORE PEOPLE ARE ALSO NEEDED TO CONSTRUCT TEMPORARY HOMES FOR THIS VICTIMS TO OVERCOME THE PROBLEM OF POOR SANITATION,CROWDED SHELTERS AND MINIMAL HEALTHCARE.
II)THE FLOOD RESPONDERS AND GET PILOTS SHOULD BE VACCINATED FIRST BEFORE THE CHOOSE TO CONTINUE HELPING.
III)MORE MONEY,SCIENTISTS AND EFFORT CAN BE INVESTED IN A PROJECT FOR A VACCINE FOR THE VIRUS WHICH COULD SAVE MANY LIVES AND ALSO PREVENT A PANDEMIC.
