Pros and Cons of Potong Pasir

Probably one of the least modern towns in Singapore, Potong Pasir comprises of a community filled with a hustle and bustle of activities that keeps the neighborhood alive and unique. Enriched with a heritage like no other, this special place has attributes, rather strong ones at the same time flaws which play a huge part in the atmosphere .

How many citizens can gaze outside the window and witness the magnificence of a river flowing? Well, ordinary residents who live in Potong Pasir do and receive the privilege of enjoying the beauty of the Kallang River, located just next to Saint Andrews Village, yet another gem to the community. Another plus point would be the opportunity to have such a prestigious batch of schools for youths in Potong Pasir to attend. It's unique way of bringing up boys is a special type of education and a rare chance to be under and the lucky folks of Potong Pasir enjoy the convenience of a school so near and at the same time, ever so special in it's way of teaching. Unlike many other places, the rich heritage of Potong Pasir is still very much in tact with the community and old provision shops and pet shops are still quite visible at the lobby of flats which are not in it's best form but safe to say, the residents are still gleaming with happy faces enjoying coffee and chatting with long-bonded friends and receiving their necessities from places less than a mile away.

Everything has its ups and downs, this is no exception. It is inevitable that a certain amount of noise is produced by schools every morning so this is where the dark side comes about. Housewives or even the retired seldom get out from slumberland at a time when the sun is hardly visible, however, the boisterous chaps from the schools seldom recognize this factor. A relatively large amount of noise is produced each morning due to assembly etc., and that is most of the time the rooster for those still fast asleep. This is probably one of the only negatives I see from the happy town of Potong Pasir. Transport is brilliant to and fro, daily necessities are easily accessible from most places.

To conclude, the positive side of this unique town covers up the minute flaws of the community. Potong Pasir is most definitely a fun and great place to live in.

Pros and Cons living in Potong pasir.

Potong pasir is an area located between Toa Payoh and Sennett estate in the Central region of Singapore. It is famous for its unique archtitecture with slanted roofs. It has became the most recognisable icon of Potong Pasir.

There is river called the Kallang River in Potong Pasir. Its unique as we do not usually see rivers in our neighbourhoods. It flows for 10 kilometres from the Lower Peirce Reservoir to the coast at Nicoll Highway, making it the longest river in Singapore. It is also nice too see residents going for their morning stroll and relaxing by looking at he view of the Kallang River. However,Some irresponsible residents are throwing rubbish into the Kallang River. This causes the river to be polluted.A polluted river could also cause diseases to spread easily.

The St Andrews village is also part of the neighbourhood which ranges from the Acension kindergarden to the St Andrews junior college. These schools provide and all-round education for it students. It focuses on making a student.
a better person. They also organise activities like the coastal clean-ups in the Kallang river. It shows they care a lot about this neighbourhood. However,Some times residents also have to put with irresponsible or reckless behaviour from students. For example,Students who vandalise the walls.

Potong pasir is a multi-racial community. There is an Indian temple, church and mosque for Residents who are Indians,Christians or Muslims. There are very few amenities in Potong pasir. The amenities are a barber shop, 3 food centres,2 fast-food restaurants,a small wet market, a ABC shop, a park and a community centre which has basketball courts, an archery range, street soccer court, badminton and also a newspaper reading corner for the Elderly people.Residents have to go to other places for shopping as there is no shopping centre in Potong pasir. They also have to go to other places to get a variety of food as there is very limited food outlets in Potong pasir.

Now on our final verdict of Potong pasir,Its a very quiet environment and where there is not so much noise or disturbance. It is very peaceful. However,There needs to be certain facilities like Shopping centre,Hospitals and more food outlets which could modernize Potong pasir and cater to the needs of the residents.

Potong  Pasir is an estate located in between Toa Payoh  and Sennett estate. In the early days, Potong Pasir was a sand quarry and is now one of the oldest estates in Singapore. What makes Potong Pasir unique is the Kallang river that runs through the estate and the unique slanted top HDB flats.
Potong Pasir is home to many people from all walks of life. There are condominiums, HDB and landed properties in Potong Pasir. The neighborhood centre consists of 51 shops providing a wide range of goods and services ranging from cake shop, hair salon, provision shops, fruit shops, aquarium, beauty centres, mini-mart, medical and dental clinics, fast food restaurants and eating outlets to serve the residents. There is also an Indian temple in Potong Pasir and serves as a convenient worship area for the Hindus living in Potong Pasir.
Potong Pasir also has a community centre which has an archery room, a basketball court and just outside it a street soccer court. It is a place for everyone, no matter young or old, to enjoy  bonding together. The community centre in Potong Pasir also organizes activities like taichi and line dancing. This allows the senior citizens living in Potong Pasir to spend their time learning new skills and also serves as a way to meet new people and make new friends.
Another feature of Potong Pasir is the nearby schools that surround it. There is St. Andrew’s school and Cedar Girls School which is very convenient for the people in Potong Pasir to send their children to school.
One way Potong Pasir can improve is by building a shopping mall. This will make Potong Pasir a more modern estate as Potong Pasir is getting left behind by other estates. This will also make more people come to Potong Pasir.
Another way Potong Pasir can improve is by making full use of the Kallang river as it is currently being used by residents as a place for fishing only. The Potong Pasir community should organize more events like dragon boat competitions so that the Kallang river is made to full use.
In conclusion, Potong Pasir has a great variety of services which cater to different kinds of people. Just by making it a bit more modernized, it can be a great estate for people to live in.

Pros & Cons of Living in Potong Pasir

Potong Pasir is located in the central region of Singapore between Toa Payoh and Sennett Estate. Potong Pasir actually means 'cut sand' in the Malay language. It probably got its name because it was once occupied by sand-quarries. Other than being famous for its unique flats with the slanted roof, there are many more things that Potong Pasir has to offer when it comes to living.

There are many benefits to living in this quaint part of Singapore, such as the Potong Pasir MRT which is just a stone's throw away from the homes there. The MRT station is underground, hence the houses can maintain their privacy and noise levels are kept to a minimum.

St Andrew's School is also part of the neighbourhood. This is either a good or bad thing. If residents have children (especially boys), St Andrew's School is just a few minutes walk away. Its campus provides education from Pre-School to Junior College, St Andrew's School also provides an all-rounded education focusing not only on academics, but also on moral values, the Arts as well on excellence in the sporting area. As the saying goes "boys will be boys", hence residents would have to put up with some of the student's irresponsible, reckless and boisterous behaviour.

There is also a Hindu Temple, Mosque and a few churches, all within the Potong Pasir area. However, amenities in the town are still relatively basic. There are no sophisticated shopping malls or restaurants near by. For food choices, there are a few variety such as a coffeshop, KFC ( Kentucky Fried Chicken), a Bubble Tea store etc. Other amenities such as a barber shop, a small wet market, a One Dollar Value shop, a park and a community centre which has basketball courts, an archery range, street soccer court and a badminton court for the public's use. The Kallang River also cuts through Potong Pasir, making the neighbourhood even more beautiful and serene.

Now for our verdict on living in Potong Pasir. It is truly a place where you can escape from the hussle and bustle of Singapore, and experience tranquility, yet being within reach of the city and other facilities nearby.
