Potong Pasir is an estate located in between Toa Payoh and Sennett estate. In the early days, Potong Pasir was a sand quarry and is now one of the oldest estates in Singapore. What makes Potong Pasir unique is the Kallang river that runs through the estate and the unique slanted top HDB flats.
Potong Pasir is home to many people from all walks of life. There are condominiums, HDB and landed properties in Potong Pasir. The neighborhood centre consists of 51 shops providing a wide range of goods and services ranging from cake shop, hair salon, provision shops, fruit shops, aquarium, beauty centres, mini-mart, medical and dental clinics, fast food restaurants and eating outlets to serve the residents. There is also an Indian temple in Potong Pasir and serves as a convenient worship area for the Hindus living in Potong Pasir.
Potong Pasir also has a community centre which has an archery room, a basketball court and just outside it a street soccer court. It is a place for everyone, no matter young or old, to enjoy bonding together. The community centre in Potong Pasir also organizes activities like taichi and line dancing. This allows the senior citizens living in Potong Pasir to spend their time learning new skills and also serves as a way to meet new people and make new friends.
Another feature of Potong Pasir is the nearby schools that surround it. There is St. Andrew’s school and Cedar Girls School which is very convenient for the people in Potong Pasir to send their children to school.
One way Potong Pasir can improve is by building a shopping mall. This will make Potong Pasir a more modern estate as Potong Pasir is getting left behind by other estates. This will also make more people come to Potong Pasir.
Another way Potong Pasir can improve is by making full use of the Kallang river as it is currently being used by residents as a place for fishing only. The Potong Pasir community should organize more events like dragon boat competitions so that the Kallang river is made to full use.
In conclusion, Potong Pasir has a great variety of services which cater to different kinds of people. Just by making it a bit more modernized, it can be a great estate for people to live in.
